The Mountains & the Trees

"Lion's Pride"

It seems like an awfully long time since we heard a new collection from the Mountains & the Trees, and now the Nova Scotia folk dude also known as Jon Janes has given fans a taste of what he's working on with a track called "Lion's Pride."

The hushed folk song comes in two forms. There's a studio version, which features Janes' whispered croon and acoustic strums joined by banjo plucking a few fiddle flourishes. Unexpectedly, the arrangement goes widescreen in the final passage with the entrance of drums and horns.

There's also an intimate performance video that showcases a solo version of the tune. In this rendition, he uses a loop pedal to layer his own electro-acoustic playing and add a few twangy leads. He gets particularly creative with the use of a bow to concoct a faux-orchestral finale.

Check out both versions below.
