Motörhead have been gearing up for a busy 2013 that was to include a summer European tour and a new album called Aftershock, but now the tour has been cancelled due to singer-bassist Lemmy's health problems.
Billboard notes that the metal icon was recently implanted with a defibrillator to remedy his irregular heartbeat, and he suffered postoperative hematoma — a compilation following surgery where blood collects below the skin at the surgery site. As a result, the band have recently axed a few European shows and now the entire tour.
By the sound of things, Lemmy's health condition isn't anything for fans to fret about; soon after his operation back in the spring, he apparently resumed his life as usual, but his doctors have since told him that he needs to rest up.
Lemmy shared this statement on Motörhead's official website (we've left the original grammar in tact): "I'd like to thank everyone who wish me well, it was a tough decision for me as I don't like to disappoint the fans especially in times where economy is bad and people spent their money to see us. But sometimes you can't do anything else than following doctor's orders, but be sure we will be back and kick everybody's ass."
Aftershock is still scheduled for a fall release. According to Billboard, Lemmy is expected to take part in a tour at that time. In the meantime, the band's cancelled schedule is below.
