"Lover's Spit" (Broken Social Scene cover) on Exclaim! TV

BY Calum SlingerlandPublished Feb 24, 2015

Until a month before performing a set of Broken Social Scene covers at the 15th edition of the Wavelength Music Festival, Paul McEachern of Most People had never listened to the band's work. With his attention captivated by other genres at the height of the indie rock collective's career, some serious listening sessions were required to decide which tracks he and his bandmates would reinterpret live.

Exclaim! TV was lucky enough to catch the band's special covers set at Sneaky Dee's in Toronto on February 13, where they performed "Lover's Spit," a track taken from Broken Social Scene's 2002 full-length You Forgot It in People.

Taking the tempo of the song up a few notches in comparison to the original, Gibson-DeGroote delivers a simple drum pattern while guest bassist Mike Pereira lays down a steady low-end line. Light electric guitar picking from Paul McEachern fills the space between Gibson-DeGroote's vocal delivery, adding some vocal harmony of his own in the lower register not long after. McEachern also gets to show off some of his soloing skills before another round of chorus leads the piece to a close.
