Morrissey Opens Up About Health Issues, Reveals He's Been Treated for Cancer

This year, around the tumultuous release of his new album World Peace Is None of Your Business, divisive British pop icon Morrissey famously cancelled a bunch of tour dates. It wasn't out of the ordinary for the artist to do so, but now it looks like he may have really been sick. In a new interview, Morrissey revealed that he's been struggling with cancer.

Speaking with the Spanish newspaper El Mundo [via the Guardian], Morrissey revealed that he's undergone a series of treatments for cancer.

"They have scraped cancerous tissues four times already, but whatever," Morrissey said. "If I die, then I die. And if I don't, then I don't. Right now I feel good. I am aware that in some of my recent photos I look somewhat unhealthy, but that's what illness can do. I'm not going to worry about that, I'll rest when I'm dead."

The cancer reports follow confirmation that Morrissey was diagnosed with a bleeding ulcer, double pneumonia and food poisoning in 2013, plus a respiratory infection earlier this year.

Now 55, Morrissey confessed that he's "now at an age when I should no longer be making music … Many composers of classical music died at age 34. And I'm still here, and nobody knows what to do with me." Currently putting the finishing touches on his debut novel, he added, "With luck I will be able to stop singing forever, which would make many people happy!"

World Peace Is None of Your Business was released last year. Then, after a dispute with his then record label which caused them to part ways, it was pulled from shelves.
