Moritz Von Oswald Trio Gets Afrobeat Hero Tony Allen for New LP

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 13, 2015

Vladislav Delay (a.k.a. Sasu Ripatti) is no longer playing with the Moritz Von Oswald Trio, but the project is still a three-piece thanks to the addition of classic Afrobeat drummer Tony Allen (Fela Kuti, Damon Albarn's Rocket Juice & the Moon). This new lineup is now preparing to release an album.

The record is called Sounding Lines, and it will be out on June 9 through Honest Jon's Records. It consists of eight numerically named tracks, and mixing was handled by Chilean-German producer/electronic music god Ricardo Villalobos.

According to an announcement, the album contains "4/4 tracks, beatless interludes, and complex jazz structures, with propulsive recordings ('3') coexisting alongside more languid moments ('1'). Sometimes Allen provides flourishes of drums (notably on '4') while at other times spectral synths come to the fore (as on '5')."

It will be available on CD or double LP. No new songs have been released just yet, but live footage from last year can be seen at the bottom of this page.

This album is the follow-up to 2012's Fetch.
