C H R I S T Announce Debut LP

BY Gregory AdamsPublished May 5, 2015

A year after making their formal live debut, moody Montreal post-rock unit C H R I S T have unveiled the details behind their debut album. The quartet will be serving up the massive sounds of their T O W E R LP on vinyl and as a digital download June 8 through L'oeil Du Tigre.

A press release explains that the group have roots in Quebec's hardcore and metal scenes, with members having previously been attached to acts like Ire, the Black Hand, Cobra Noir and Near Grey. C H R I S T push them towards "intimate and enthralling soundscapes" that lean towards post-rock touchstones like Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Mogwai and This Will Destroy You, as well as oppressive drone metal unit Earth.

T O W E R's to-be-detailed tracklisting is said to feature four "intense," mostly instrumental songs that were recorded at Montreal's Thee Mighty Hotel2Tango studio by Thierry Amar (Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Thee Silver Mount Zion Memorial Orchestra). The collection was then mixed by Amar and Jersualem in My Heart's Radwan Ghazi Moumneh, who had played with C H R I S T's Patrick Paradis in Ire and the Black Hand. T O W E R was mastered by Harris Newman at Grey Market.

Though song previews are expected ahead of the album's official release, you can sample some of the solemn tones in album trailer. You'll find the clip, as well as a few upcoming concert dates, down below. More shows are expected to be announced in near future.
