Monotonix Guitarist Yonatan Gat Goes Solo for New EP

BY Alex HudsonPublished Mar 20, 2014

Monotonix said that they weren't breaking up in 2011, but we've heard almost nothing from the Israeli garage rock act since their cryptic "the end" photo in March of that year. Now, the band's guitarist Yonatan Gat is preparing to release his debut EP for Joyful Noise Recordings. Iberian Passage is out on May 27.

The six-song set was recorded at Estúdios Sá da Bandeira in Porto, Portugal. It features Gat on guitar backed by drummer Igor Domingues. Brooklyn Vegan notes that it was inspired by Os Mutantes and Miles Davis.

The brightly sunny, Latin-flecked rocker "Escorpião" and the slightly brawnier "Kotonou" are both streaming below the tracklist. Based on these songs, it seems that the EP is mostly (although not entirely) instrumental. The album cover is above.

Monotonix's Facebook page notes that frontman Ami Shalev is playing some shows in Israel with his new project, the Partisans.

Iberian Passage:

1. Escorpião
2. Broken Caravan
3. Kotonou
4. Conga Manteca
5. Seven to Seven
6. Bordeo

Tour dates:

03/20 - Brooklyn, NY - Death by Audio
