Modern Superstitions Announce Debut Album, Get Ben Cook and Brian Borcherdt to Produce

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Sep 5, 2012

Earlier this year, Toronto indie power pop outfit Modern Superstitions delivered their "School Days" / "Way I Want" 7-inch, but the band now have something a little meatier coming our way. The group have just announced that their self-titled debut LP arrives October 23 via Last Gang Records.

While that recent vinyl single found Holy Fuck/By Diving Right member Brian Borcherdt manning the mixing board, the group also roped in Fucked Up's Ben Cook to co-handle production duties on the LP. According to the act, it took over a year to put together their first full-length, with recording sessions taking place with Borcherdt in the summer and Cook taking over during the chilly winter months.

"It took over a year to figure out what we wanted," singer Nyssa Rosaleen said in a statement. "Sometimes we felt unstoppable. Sometimes we felt homesick. Sometimes we felt heartsick. Sometimes we felt ecstatic. And sometimes we were just bored. But we set ourselves up to be what we are now, a class of our own, a weirdo pop band set against the rest, doing what we want."

Both "School Days" and "Way I Want" are featured on the Modern Superstitions tracklisting, but it also features eight previously unreleased tunes. You can check out the newly unveiled album track "Bad Habit" down below.
