BY Alex HudsonPublished Jun 1, 2015

The definition of the "mixtape" has become somewhat blurred in recent years, as it has at times become synonymous with everything from compilations to commercially available digital albums. Now, the Scion Sessions has shed some light on the history of the mixtape with a multi-part documentary.

The first part of Mixtape: An Unauthorized Biography takes the history of the mixtape right back to its origin: cassette compilations recorded off the radio. Directed by David Mewa, it features a variety of industry insiders talking about the early history of mixtapes, how they rose to prominence and why they are important.

This is the first part of a three-episode series, so stay tuned for future instalments of Mixtape: An Unauthorized Biography.
