Miguel to Star in Film Produced by John Legend

Miguel is set to grace the silver screen. Although the pop-soul singer's resume is rather low on acting credits, he has now been tapped to star in a film being produced by John Legend.

This is the debut feature from director Nabil Elderkin (who has previously helmed music videos and commercials). It's based on a screenplay by Taylor Cohen, which tells of a one-hit-wonder who rediscovers a love of music while coaching a talent show contestant.

It's being described as a "musical romantic drama." The story surrounding a talent show coach presumably resonated with Legend, who was a involved in the ABC singing competition Duets in 2012.

The as-yet-untitled flick is being produced by Legend's Get Lifted Film Co., along with Furst Films and IM Global.

"Mike [Jackson], Ty [Stiklorius] and I are really excited about producing our longtime friend and collaborator Nabil Elderkin's directorial debut," said Legend in a statement. "He's a major talent and being able to cast Miguel in the male lead puts us in the position to really build an incredible film with strong musical elements. We look forward to working with this dream team we've assembled to deliver something special."

There's no projected release date for the film as of yet. Meanwhile, Miguel has reportedly been working on a new album called Wild Heart (which is a lyric from his Girls single "Simplethings").
