Michael Jacket

"Summer Entitlements"

BY Alex HudsonPublished Sep 12, 2013

We first met Jarod Gibson as the drummer of Odonis Odonis and Thighs, and now he's gone solo under the pseudonym Michael Jacket. His album Cruelty will be out on October 3 through Not Unlike, and he's given us a taste of what to expect by unleashing the track "Summer Entitlements."

This instrumental cut centres on a chaotic blitz of drums. In the middle, the arrangements breaks down and briefly becomes laid-back and mellow before the jarring rhythms return.

Hear the song below. You can also check out a trailer for the album that features the same music; expect the full video for "Summer Entitlements" to arrive on the album release date.

A press release explains, "Cruelty is a stiff-legged march onto a menacing and disorienting cartoon battlefield. Blown-out bells clutch fragments of nearly discernible show tunes and truncated industrial accents. Composed, muscular, and varied, the début release from Michael Jacket batters and coerces, smirking all the while. An apparent warning shot that nonetheless leaves the listener checking for injuries long after the crackling snares and penetrating stares have receded."
