While Cody Votolato has spent part of his year recording and touring with reunited hardcore supergroup Head Wound City, the Seattle musician has also been working on his remix game. Following recent redos for the likes of Spoon, he's now revamped Toronto noiseniks' METZ's II track, "The Swimmer."
In the hands of Votolato, "The Swimmer" lands a little lighter than its tube-busting origins. That said, blasts of guitar distortion and Alex Edkins savage howl still hang heavy in the mix.
Driven by a deep, mechanical clank, the first half of the track comes across like METZ being reinterpreted by digital hardcore vets Atari Teenage Riot. The mood shifts into more neon-hued horizons, though, as the closing moments filter in calmed washes of synth.
You can check out the remix down below.
As for Votolato's Head Wound City, which includes members of the Locust, the Blood Brothers and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the band recently came home from a west coast tour. They have yet to reveal the details behind their in-the-works next release, their first since a 2005 self-titled EP.
