Metallica Launch Vinyl Reissue Campaign via Their Own Blackened Recordings

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jul 24, 2014

Back in 2012, heavy music gods Metallica regained control of their entire back catalogue and launched their own label called Blackened Recordings. Now, they're using this imprint to launch a massive vinyl reissue campaign.

As Modern Vinyl points out, the campaign consists of a total of 11 vinyl releases. Albums getting single-LP pressings are Kill 'Em All (1983), Ride the Lightning (1984) and Master of Puppets (1986). Double-LP pressings, meanwhile, will be given to ...And Justice for All (1988), Metallica (1991), Load (1996), Reload (1997), St. Anger (2003) and Death Magnetic (2008).

There are also two triple-LPs: 1999's symphonic live album S&M and the compilation Garage Inc. from 1998.

The first wave of these will come out on August 25, and the titles include Garage Inc., Load, Reload, Master of Puppets, Metallica, S&M and St. Anger. The rest — ...And Justice for All, Ride the Lightning, Kill 'Em All and Death Magnetic — follow on September 16.

They're already available to pre-order on Amazon; just don't expect bear conservationists to fork out any money for them.

These appear to be simple repressings, with the audio being the similar to those of prior editions. The vinyl releases follow Blackened's prior CD reissues.
