We've already heard about an onslaught of limited-edition goodies coming our way this Record Store Day (April 21), but Merge Records is vying for your hard-earned cash too, as the label has announced a number of releases from roster faves Arcade Fire, Destroyer and M. Ward, among others.
Canadian indie rock juggernauts Arcade Fire released The Suburbs back in the summer of 2010, but the outfit will keep repping the set via a twelve-inch single featuring a couple remixes. Interpretations of the album's "Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)" and "Ready to Start" will be reworked by the band and Montreal-based producer Damian Taylor (Björk, Austra). The "Ready to Start" remix previously appeared on the deluxe version of The Suburbs.
Merge will also revisit Destroyer's back catalogue with a double-LP pressing of the Vancouver artist's 2006 effort Rubies. The RSD pressing will come on red vinyl and feature the bonus cut "Loscil's Rubies," a 20-minute remix track from the band's Scott Morgan (aka electronic musician Loscil). While this will be the first time Merge delivers the disc on wax, the double-vinyl edition of Rubies had previously been issued in Canada by Scratch Records.
In addition to those releases, Merge will jump into the present via a new seven-inch from M. Ward. The single will host "Primitive Girl" from his upcoming A Wasteland Companion LP, and will also feature two exclusive B-sides: a cover of Chuck Berry's "Roll Over Beethoven" and new number "The Twist."
Richard Buckner also joins in on Record Store Day fun with his "Willow" / "Lost" seven-inch, which adds a digital twist with the inclusion of a download code for a cover of the Cars' "Candy-O."
