The Melvins Attempt World Record for Fastest U.S. Tour by Booking 51 Shows in 51 Days

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jun 5, 2012

Move over, Jack White. This summer and fall, sludge metal heroes the Melvins hope to be recognized by Guinness World Records when they embark on an outing that they believe will be the fastest-ever tour of all 50 U.S. states, plus Washington, DC.

These 51 shows will take place in just 51 days, with one gig a day and no breaks. It begins in Anchorage, AK, on September 5, and lasts until October 25 in Honolulu, Hawaii. The band will be touring as their stripped-down Melvins Lite incarnation, and along the way they will play their first-ever dates in Alaska, New Hampshire, Delaware and Hawaii.

It's unclear whether this "record-breaking tour" is a joke, or if it's inspired by Jack White's recent jabs at Guinness World Records. In any case, it's an impressive schedule, and "fastest U.S. tour" probably has a better chance of getting recognized than "most metaphors in a singe concert."

Before the Melvins embark on their hopefully recording-setting run, Melvins Lite will promote their new album, Freak Puke, with a previously announced North American run that includes plenty of Canadian dates. See the full schedule below.
