Megan Hamilton

'2004 Demos'

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jan 14, 2014

This month marks the 10-year-anniversary of Megan Hamilton's first-ever demos, and the Ontario songwriter has marked the occasion by sharing them online.

The songs were recorded with engineer Mark Vogelsang at his Toronto apartment. She wrote, "On January 2, 2004, in a little bathroom with red furry rugs hung to stop the sound from bouncing too much, I lay down most of what was in my repertoire at the time."

The songs are mostly quiet acoustic numbers featuring Hamilton's plaintive voice, finger-picking and nothing else. "Don't Ask Me," on the other hand, incorporates keyboard and softly tapping drums.

Hear the five-song demo below. It's available as a pay-what-you-want download.
