Matt Skiba Announces Full-Length Debut for Alkaline Trio Side-Project Matt Skiba & the Sekrets

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Mar 1, 2012

Alkaline Trio leader Matt Skiba has stepped away from his long-running romantic pop punk band before, most recently in January when he issued the Sauve Les Requins EP with former Angels and Airwaves drummer Atom Willard under the name the HELL, and it looks as if the announcement of yet another project called Matt Skiba & the Sekrets will have him tom-catting away from his main gig just a little bit longer.

The new group's debut disc Babylon arrives on May 8 through Superball Music. Described in a press release as Skiba's solo venture, the album purportedly takes influence from Alkaline Trio's trademark pop punk sound, but is also said to pull from '80s post-punk, which by the looks of that promo shot above may mean Adam Ant and Bow Wow Wow.

The ten-song set was recorded by Cameron Webb (Social Distortion, 30 Second to Mars) and is full of "addictively dancy rock and sing-along melodies." Song samples have yet been delivered, but you can check the tracklisting below.

Though little info is provided on the group's Facebook page, Skiba's Wikipedia entry claims that AFI bassist Hunter Burgan and My Chemical Romance tour drummer Jarrod Alexander are part of the backup band.
