Massive Attack Recording New Material with Damon Albarn, Richard Russell

Massive Attack Recording New Material with Damon Albarn, Richard Russell
It's possible that English trip-hop greats Massive Attack have been working on new tunes since that "3D & Verona" demo leaked last fall, but a series of studio pictures uploaded to the duo's Facebook page today (March 16) confirms they're indeed in the midst of recording.

The photos range from a picture of an organ they'll apparently be using on whatever the recording session is for, as well as a snap of Robert "3D" Del Naja hanging out in the toilet. Also included are pics of some high-profile guests, including Gorillaz/Blur main man Damon Albarn and XL Recordings founder Richard Russell.

The studio jam sessions may come as a bit of a surprise, as Del Naja had previously hinted that the group could tackle things on their own for the follow-up to 2010's Heligoland, which also featured Albarn, as well as Hope Sandoval, Elbow's Guy Garvey, TV on the Radio's Tunde Adebimpe and more.

"Maybe we'll work with less people, maybe we'll do something a bit more symphonic and instrumental. It could be completely different on every level," he had said at the time.

It's still unclear if the sessions will lead to another full-length, but regardless of the outcome, we'll be simultaneously salivating and speculating until the official news arrives.
