Mark Mills

"Liberate" (video)

What starts off classy gets increasingly grotesque in the new music video for Vancouver electro-pop songwriter Mark Mills' track "Liberate."

As you can see in Exclaim!'s premiere of the new clip, the visuals for the psych-tinged synth-pop track begin by showing sepia-toned, vintage-looking footage of Mills hanging around outside of a stately-looking building. Things take a turn for the raunchy once he stuffs his face with a McDonald's burger, since he graphically ralphes all over the pavement and then dances on the puddle of puke. Take that, consumerism!

The track was shot by Milk Jagger and edited by Mills himself.

In a statement, Mills explained, "The inspiration for the project came from growing up in Calgary, and feeling confined by corporate capitalistic consumer-centric conditioning. I wish to celebrate my love of music and movement, and liberate from the aforementioned conventions."

"Liberate" appears on a 7-inch along with the prior single "Celebrate." Mills will release the record with a Vancouver show on May 1 at Fortune Sound Club, to be followed by a couple of Alberta shows. See his tour schedule below and scroll past that to watch the video for "Liberate."
