Mark Kozelek Preps Two New Albums for 2013

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Oct 29, 2012

Soft and sombre U.S. songsmith Mark Kozelek delivered his 2012 effort Among the Leaves under his Sun Kil Moon moniker earlier this year, but a pair of newly announced LPs dropping early next year will be released under his given name.

Kozelek's Caldo Verde imprint will issue a new studio set titled Like Rats on February 19 that finds the singer-songwriter tackling songs by a number of his favourite artists, no doubt delivered in his distinct downer fashion. Following a career full of low-key AC/DC, John Denver, Modest Mouse and Kiss covers, this next record diversifies Kozelek's songbook with attempts at Bad Brains' "I," the Misfits' "Green Hell," Genesis's "Carpet Crawlers," and Sonny & Cher's signature tune "I Got You Babe," among other interpretations. You can peep the tracklist down below.

Also arriving on February 19 is Live at Phoenix Public House Melbourne. The self-explanatory live album was recorded in Australia last June, and finds Kozelek performing tunes he issued as Sun Kil Moon and with slow-core greats Red House Painters. You can sample new tune "You Missed My Heart" over here.

While those two records won't arrive until 2013, there's still one more Kozelek-related release to drop in 2012. A two-disc audio companion to last year's Mark Kozelek: On Tour documentary drops November 13, and includes four songs not heard in the film.
