As previously reported, Mark Kozelek and his Caldo Verde imprint are gearing up to release two new LPs on February 19, the covers set Like Rats and the concert collection Live at Phoenix Public House Melbourne. The slowcore pioneer has now whipped up a gritty black and white clip for Like Rats' title track, which was originally performed by industrial metal greats Godflesh.
Unsurprisingly, Kozelek's take strips away the original's distorted, detuned guitars and growls in favour of softer, though no less gloomy, acoustic arrangements. The visuals are equally grim, with simple, haunting shots of garbage-bag covered trees and litter-filled streets and fields taking up prime real estate in the video's runtime.
Elsewhere, an overturned bug suffers through its last moments before being swept up by a wave, and a lady with a saggy, poo-filled sack solemnly walks up a promenade with her pup by her side. You can check out the emotionally grueling minutiae down below.
