The March Divide

"Forward Thinking"

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Feb 9, 2015

Bouncy pop-rock project the March Divide is ready to return with an EP titled +1 EP this week, and Exclaim.ca has got an exclusive premiere of album cut "Forward Thinking."

The new set of songs follows up the March Divide's 2014 sophomore effort Billions and hears main man Jared Putnam loosening up a bit.

"I haven't been taking everything so seriously, which really helped me to open up," said Putnam of the new material. "I'm finally at a stage in my life where I don't have to bleed all over the page to write a song."

The punk-tinged pop tune "Forward Thinking" is still a personal one, though. It's "really about where I was after I stopped playing music full time," said Putnam. "At my age, it was a huge leap of faith, or insanity, to devote so much of myself to music again."

On a more universal scale, he explained it's about people's tendency to "let life pass us by, while sitting around talking about all the big things we're going to do."

+1  is officially out tomorrow (February 10), and you better not let it pass you by. Give "Forward Thinking" a listen in the player below.
