Madlib Promises New Quasimoto Album, Says 'Madvillainy 2' "Probably Won't Happen"

Madlib Promises New Quasimoto Album, Says 'Madvillainy 2'
We've waited patiently for many years in the hopes that Madlib and DOOM would finally release a sophomore album as Madvillain. The duo, who dropped a stone cold classic with 2004's Madvillainy, teased us with new music in 2011. Now, however, Madlib says the dream is most likely dead.

Speaking with Rolling Stone, Madlib explained that he's completely done his half of the project, but it's up to DOOM to complete verses. "I handed all the beats to DOOM years ago, but ever since he's been in Europe, he's been hard to get a hold of. I feel it probably won't happen, but you never know. I can't sit and wait on that. I did my part."

Fortunately, even without another Madvillain record, there's plenty more Madlib on the horizon. After dropping the recent Quaisomoto rarities comp Yessir Whatever, the producer promised he's got some new work on the way from his helium-voiced alter ego.

"I still haven't finished," he said of the new LP. "It takes time. It has to be on a different level. The shrooms were the stuff that made me do Quasimoto in the first place. Hopefully, I get back on that level where I can finish it."

To top it all off, Madlib is also working on a collaborative project with Freddie Gibbs called MadGibbs. Their release will also feature guest spots from Earl Sweatshirt and Danny Brown.
