Mad Season to Unearth Previously Unreleased Material in New Box Set

Even though half of Mad Season's lineup has passed away, the grunge supergroup reunited earlier this year and surviving members guitarist Mike McCready (Pearl Jam) and drummer Barrett Martin promised that they were working on new material. Now, some unheard tunes will see the light of day in the form of a new box set from the '90s band.

In an interview with the SunBreak [via Antiquiet], Martin broke the news, saying, "To honour our departed brothers, Mike and I oversaw a Mad Season box set, which comes out March 12, 2013. It contains the re-mastered Above album, the Moore concert on DVD with surround sound, and a bunch of live recordings that we never released."

There are also three songs that McCready and Martin wrote with vocalist Mark Lanegan. Martin said that these songs were originally slated for a second Mad Season album that was never completed following the deaths of singer Layne Staley (Alice in Chains) in 2002 and bassist John Baker Saunders in 1999.

Martin explained, "One of the songs Peter Buck wrote with us, and the other two are from me and Mike. They are three of the heaviest and most beautiful songs Mad Season did, and I know Layne and Baker will love them."

The release date is still a ways off, so we can expect more specific details in the coming months.
