There's still no word on when contemporary shoegazing electro-pop favourite M83 will unveil a follow-up to 2011's Hurry Up, We're Dreaming, but the man born Anthony Gonzalez will be dusting off the better part of his back catalogue this fall with a series of reissues.
Mute has announced that it will be repressing the artist's 2001 self-titled debut, 2003's Dead Cities, Red Seas, & Lost Ghosts and 2005's Before the Dawn Heals Us on August 25. The reissues will come on vinyl, CD and digitally, as well as preserve the original tracklistings. The vinyl versions, which had last been repressed by Mute in 2009, have been out of print for the last few years.
M83 introduced the project as the then duo of Gonzalez and Nicolas Fromageau, with Exclaim! having described an earlier repress as "electronic mood music" that showcases "the haunting cinematic traits of the music we've come to know and love" from M83. Dead Cities, Red Seas, & Lost Ghosts was delivered in Europe in 2003 and in North America a year later, to much critical acclaim, while 2005's Before the Dawn Heals Us was the first album not to feature Fromageau.
In addition to the upcoming reissues, M83 will also deliver a pair of rarities collections in the fall. Both Dead Cities, Red Seas and Lost Ghosts Remixes and B-sides and Before The Dawn Heals Us Remixes and B-Sides arrive digitally on September 9 through Mute, and as those titles hint at, each package is loaded with alternate versions, live tracks and remixes from the likes of Montag, KG, Jackson and more.
