The Lonely Parade

"Girl" on Exclaim! TV

BY Lisa VanderwykPublished Jul 22, 2015

Augusta Veno, Charlotte Dempsey and Anwyn Climenhage are the Lonely Parade, a punk-y indie rock trio from Peterborough, ON. Their debut album Sheer Luxury arrived in 2014, and their recent Splenda Thief EP followed less than a year later. The Lonely Parade are preparing to tour across eastern Canada throughout July and August, but before they march off, they made a stop at the Exclaim! office.

The trio set up in our backyard to perform for our Exclaim! TV cameras. The set begins with a lighthearted introduction before they launch into "Girl," when it becomes immediately clear why the Lonely Parade have been compared to the likes of Bikini Kill, Patti Smith and Mudhoney. Like these acts, Veno's authoritative voice leads the song through sharp twists, while Dempsey and Climenhage are hot on her heels with the rhythm.
