The Lonely Island Working on Movie with Judd Apatow

Aside from top-notch comedy work on shows like Saturday Night Live and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the trio of Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer have cranked out three top-notch comedy rap albums as the Lonely Island. Following last year's release, The Wack Album, the trio are now onto bigger and better things, and reportedly working on a new movie.

Variety reports that the long-running comedy team have successfully pitched a movie idea to Universal Pictures. It's currently in the writing stage, with Schaffer and Taccone set to co-direct.

While it's technically the first official movie under the Lonely Island banner, the trio offered their anarchic, juvenile sense of humour to 2007's cult classic Hot Rod, and have appeared in various films ever since.

In addition, the film will receive even more star power with the news that comedic heavyweight Judd Apatow is on board to produce the film.

Stay tuned for more information on the Lonely Island movie as it becomes available, and watch the group's recent video for the Pharrell-assisted "Hugs" below.
