Liars Plotting June Release for New Album

BY Alex HudsonPublished Mar 1, 2012

Since Liars' last full-length, 2010's Sisterworld, the band have tided us over with a slew of low-key stopgap releases, including a live EP, a B-sides-heavy EP and a live session. Well, it looks as if the next official full-length from the genre-busting post-punks is just around the corner, since they have revealed that it will be out in June.

The band announced the album in a video posted on their Tumblr account. The fast-moving, slightly disorienting two-minute clip shows Liars in a studio room that's full of keyboards and synths (and notably few guitars). The clip is soundtracked by a blippy electro track that may or may not be material from the sessions. It ends with an image of a geometric "L" and the caption "June 2012." See that image above and the video below.

It appears that Liars have been experimenting with some weird recording methods, since various clips on Tumblr show microphones aimed at everything from books to bubbling glasses of juice to buzzing fluorescent lights and knives being sharpened.

That's about all we know for certain, but stay tuned to Liars' Tumblr for more oddments from the studio, and expect an official announcement before too long.

Thanks to Pitchfork for the tip.
