A great mix of performances both big and small make up this week's edition of Can't Miss Concerts, from October 8 to 14. The Black Dahlia Murder

Though their new LP is titled Abysmal, the latest effort from the Black Dahlia Murder is anything but, and could very well be the entry into their catalogue that turns any remaining naysayers into yeasayers. This week, the Michigan metal outfit's itinerary takes them through the western part of the country with only one day off in between stops in Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver.

BC-bred punks Gob announced another leg of dates in support of last year's Apt. 13 back in August. They finally kick off the tour alongside Montreal quartet Boids this week out west, with stops in Calgary, Winnipeg and Thunder Bay, ON before jumping out east to Halifax.

Gwar

Still trucking along on their current "desecration of the North American continent" mission, Gwar didn't let a rained out date at Toronto's Riot Fest get them down. The costumed crew are bringing their 30th anniversary celebrations back to Canada with stops in Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Calgary and Edmonton this week.

Kalle Mattson

Critically acclaimed Ottawa-based songwriter Kalle Mattson hasn't lost a step with his stunning six-track EP Avalanche, and the man will continue his trek through Western Canada to show it off this week. After a night in Calgary, Mattson will be in Edmonton at the CKUA Radio Performance Hall as part of the city's Up + Downtown Festival the following evening. Then, he's off to Saskatoon.

With her sophomore record this year, Lianne La Havas showed her ability to write great songs without a care for genre labels or restrictions. The songwriter will bring her show to Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver in support of Blood this week.

Madonna's Rebel Heart tour reaches the western side of the continent this week, featuring back-to-back performances in Edmonton, one of which is already sold out. She'll stop at Vancouver's Rogers Arena on October 14, accompanied by special opening guest Kaytranada.

Tech N9ne

Speedy spitter Tech N9ne is returning to the Great White North this month on his "Special Effects Canadian Tour," accompanied by labelmate Krizz Kaliko and Canadian rapper Doug Crawford. The three will take no evenings off on a trip out west, having booked a show every night this week while visiting Thunder Bay, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Red Deer, Calgary and Castlegar.

Up + Downtown Festival
 
Celebrating independent music and art, Edmonton's Up + Downtown Music Festival will take over the city for the third straight year this weekend, with attendees being able to catch over 65 performers in ten venues. This year's line-up boasts the likes of Cashmere Cat, Humans, Ought, D.O.A. performing their seminal Hardcore '81 in its entirety and many more.
