Once again celebrating the works of Lee Hazlewood, reissue hub Light in the Attic is set to shine a light on the late, great artist's prolific pop legacy via a new, monolithic box set titled There's a Dream I've Been Saving: Lee Hazlewood Industries 1966-1971, which it will set into stores November 26.
A blog post from the label notes that the project has been in the making for seven years and is "by far [its] most lavishly expansive packaged project to date." The collection observes the output of the musician's Lee Hazlewood Industries record label, which press material explains both "bucked tradition" and "broke the bank."
Over the course of four CDs, the standard edition of the anthology features 107 songs issued on LHI, which were remastered either from the original tapes or from mint vinyl. The first two discs preserve everything Hazlewood pressed on the label, from singles to albums like Cowboy in Sweden, Forty, The Cowboy & The Lady, and Requiem For an Almost Lady. Also included are some unreleased tracks.
The remaining two discs contain a sampling of the LHI stable, including songs by Suzi Jane Hokom, the Kitchen Cinq, Ann-Margret, Honey Ltd., the International Submarine Band, Arthur, the Aggregation, Sanford Clark, Lynn Castle, the Surprise Package, Virgil Warner and Hamilton Streetcar. Fourteen of these songs are previously unreleased.
The package contains an LP-sized, 172-page cloth-bound book telling the story of the label, via interviews with Hazlewood and Hokum, overviews of the LPs, and roster profiles written by music journalist/novelist Jessica Hundley. The book also shows off rare photos of Hazlewood, his artists and the occasional horse in action.
A DVD of the previously unreleased 1970 film Cowboy in Sweden is also up for grabs in the box, as are a flexi disc of "studio chatter," a reproduction of Hazlewood's business card, and more.
A deluxe edition of the set, meanwhile, includes all of the above, plus three data DVDs that contain the entire LHI catalogue, which totals 17 albums and 72 singles, making for a total of 305 tracks. Other bonuses include promo pictures and a "1970 Hazlewood Airlines ticket."
