LCD Soundsystem Announce "Last Show Ever"

BY Brock ThiessenPublished Feb 5, 2011

After much hinting, it seems LCD Soundsystem are finally calling it a day. The news comes via a post on the DFA website, announcing that James Murphy and co. are "retiring from the game."

However, the sad news comes with a silver lining. Before the band bid adieu, they will be playing their "last show ever," which the post describes as a three-hour live extravaganza "with friends and family" at New York City's Madison Square Garden on April 2. Also, '80s no wave legends Liquid Liquid will be joining the farewell show.

Here's the post, simply titled "a message from LCD Soundsystem":

good people of earth:

lcd soundsystem are playing madison square garden on april 2nd, and it will be our last show ever. we are retiring from the game. gettin' out. movin' on. but for just one more night, we will be playing with friends and family for nearly 3 hours -- playing stuff we've never played before and going out with a bang. and we'd like you to be there.

if you would, we'd love it if people all came in white. or black. or black and white. and come ready to have fun, please. and come early, as the festivities will be opened by our favorites, liquid liquid. yes: liquid liquid.

if it's a funeral, let's have the best funeral ever!!!

Following the breakup of the White Stripes, this definitely adds to an already-sad week in music. But at least LCD Soundsystem are going out while they are still on top, with the band's last round of live dates becoming some of their best and last year's This Is Happening serving as one hell of a swan song.

It's unclear at this point what Murphy has planned for the future, and if this simply marks the end of his work with LCD in a live capacity. But we can only cross our fingers and hope another chapter is on the way.
