Lana Del Rey recently unveiled a new Ultraviolence track called "Brooklyn Baby." According to the singer, however, the version that we're now hearing is not as it was initially intended: it was originally written for a collaboration with Lou Reed, but the late Velvet Underground legend died on the day they were supposed to meet.
Del Rey told the Guardian that she flew to New York last fall after Reed expressed interest in working with her. "I took the red eye, touched down at 7 a.m.," she sad, "and two minutes later he died."

This is hardly the only morbid point in the Guardian's profile, in which Del Rey said, "I wish I was dead already." She further refers to her life as a "really fucked-up movie" and says that she doesn't enjoy fame, explaining, "I never felt any of the enjoyment. It was all bad, all of it."
Del Rey also addressed the criticism she has frequently received, downplaying the role of sexism and distancing herself from the likes of Miley Cyrus, Lorde, Lily Allen, Lady Gaga and Sinéad O'Connor.
"Well maybe those people are true provocateurs," she said. "But I'm really not and never have been. I don't think there's any shock value in my stuff — well, maybe the odd disconcerting lyric — but I think other people probably deserve the criticism, because they're eliciting it."
Ultraviolence will be out on June 17 on Interscope/Polydor UK.
