Lacuna Coil

Dark Adrenaline

Milan, Italy has not only spawned more than just a few world-class football teams, but a metal band that have come a long way since Comalies and Karma Code. Lacuna Coil have been through waves of elemental experimentation, yet retain the signature, melodic yin-yang of their sound. Cristina Scabbia and Andrea Ferro blend light and dark vocal styles to establish mood on the record's single, "Trip The Darkness," aptly named for its distorted riffs with accented Italian tongue foolery. "Give Me Something More" and "Upsidedown" are tinged with alternative, nu metal modes, while "I Don't Believe In Tomorrow" is stylistically angst-driven. The record has so much body due to its strong contrast pieces. With a fine balance of clean singing between Scabbia and Ferro, atop the technicality of strings and beats, there's something for everyone, especially on LC's intriguing cover of R.E.M.'s "Losing My Religion." Through a vortex of blissful chords and deep thoughts lies great closure in "My Spirit," as the powerful duo lead the band with lyrics of poetic pondering and energy resonating within the ear.
