Kreidler have always been an "electronic band" by proxy. Over the past 20 years, the Düsseldorf quartet have been making classic and authentic Kraut-rock with an organic feel. On ABC, their tenth full-length, Kreidler venture further towards humanity, adding vocal flourishes to a couple of tracks while giving even more attention to the jammy texture of their craft.
Recorded in the Eurasian country of Georgia, ABC has a more exotic and tense feel than their past few releases. The six-song LP kicks off with the motorik drum-and-synth groove of "Nino" before switching gears on the jerky "Alphabet," which features rare female vocals that help grind the track forward. "Destino" and "Modul" both rely on stocky, low-end rumblings, "Ceramic" dramatically builds towards a choir-assisted climax and "Tornado" closes off the album with imploding junkyard rhythms and buried vocal samples.
20 years into their career, Kreidler demonstrate that they're not ready to stop experimenting, making ABC one of their freshest and most career-defining albums.
