Kneedelus

That Flying Lotus's Brainfeeder imprint, a mecca for the experimental, is host to the latest melding of jazz and electronic is far shocking, but that doesn't mean this collaboration between instrumental jazz quintet Kneebody and producer Daedelus is any less of a pleasant surprise.

What shines here are the tracks that make obvious, in fits and bursts, the fusion between technology and live instrumentation, which is especially apparent on the louder, more frenetic tracks like first single "Drum Battle" and the sinister sounding "The Hole," with its guttural saxophone and minor keys; tracks like "Home" and "Thought Not," meanwhile, revel in a quiet turmoil that almost seem, at times, to lack the apparent input of one or the other collaborator. Perhaps that's testament to how seamlessly this team-up actually works.
