Klaxons Back Rihanna For "Umbrella" At BRIT Awards

Klaxons Back Rihanna For
Klaxons have revealed that they will back Rihanna for a collaboration of her infectious hit "Umbrella” tomorrow night (February 20) at the BRIT Awards in London. Speaking with the BBC, Klaxon James Righton said the band have been holed up in a studio with producer James Ford (Simian Mobile Disco) rehearsing the number one song and giving it their own flavour, much like Morris Day and the Time did at the recent Grammy Awards (see below for clip).

"We've spent more time on this track than any of our tracks on the album,” Righton told Newsbeat. "We've made our own slant on a contemporary version of it. It's an electronic version with guitars on it, with a twist of ‘Golden Skans.’"

As exciting an opportunity it is for the far-out Londoners, they’ve had to do with without the "good girl gone bad.” "It's been a bit of a funny one because she's in America and we're over here,” Righton continued. "Her people kept sending versions back going 'No, this sounds more like you.' They've got this funny idea of what our band sounds like and we've done three or four different versions.”

The BRIT Awards will air on CBC this Thursday (February 21) at 8:00 p.m. EST.

Meanwhile Klaxons have also been busy writing songs for their forthcoming album, which they’re currently scheduled to work with legendary producer Tony Visconti (David Bowie, T-Rex, Sparks) this month and Focus (Beyonce, Dr. Dre) in March, and then move on to Italy to record with Ford, who produced last year’s Mercury Prize-winning Myths of the Near Future.
