Kim Deal

"The Root" (ft. Morgan Nagler) (video)

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Mar 20, 2014

Though Kim Deal has been doling out a series of solo 7-inches the last little while, the prolific ex-Pixies/Breeders member has tapped Whispertown's Morgan Nagler as a collaborator for the fourth instalment. That said, Nagler is absent in the parking lot-set video for A-side "The Root."

Scored by a minimalist arrangement of sparse but punchy garage-pop guitar and junked-up rhythms, the low-budget vid finds Deal throwing a thumb print on a security camera before launching into lines about her mixed state of emotions ("I'm happy for you, but I feel like crying").

You can see her chant out the chorus as the cars go by down below.

Deal and Nagler's "The Root"/"Range on Castle" drops April 1 on vinyl and as a digital download, and can be pre-ordered here.
