Tomorrow night (March 15), Canadian music will celebrate itself once again with the return of the Juno Awards. But to get momentum going early, the organization has rolled out several early award announcements.
During the Junos Gala Dinner & Awards this evening, a handful of Junos were handed out. Winners included Bahamas (Adult Alternative Album of the Year, Songwriter of the Year), Fred Penner (Children's Album of the Year), Tanya Tagaq (Aboriginal Album of the Year), MAGIC! (Breakthrough Group of the Year), Sarah McLachlan (Adult Contemporary Album of the Year), Kiesza (Video of the Year, Dance Recording of the Year), and the Devin Townsend Project (Metal/Hard Music Album of the Year).
Further awards included Lights (Pop Album of the Year), July Talk (Alternative Album of the Year), the Weeknd (R&B Soul Recording of the Year), Arkells (Group of the Year) and Caribou (Electronic Album of the Year), among others.
Also, Rush were honoured at the gala, with the band receiving the 2015 Allan Waters Humanitarian Award. Music executive Ray Danniels, meanwhile, was honoured with the Walt Grealis Special Achievement Award.
