Countless hip-hop fans have already gobbled up Compton prodigy Kendrick Lamar's mind-shattering major label debut good kid, m.A.A.d. city, and no doubt part of the album's charm beyond Lamar's bleak but heart-rending storytelling is it's stellar choice of samples. If you wanted to explore some of those sounds in their natural habitat, you're in luck, as Gianni Lee and Mike Blud, along with Babylon Cartel, have done some crate-digging to put together good kid, m.A.A.d. city: the samples.
Included are Janet Jackson's slow jam "Any Time, Any Place," which figures in on Lamar and Drake's "Poetic Justice"; Kanye West's "We Major," which was used on "M.A.A.D. City"; and Andrea Estella's original coo from Twin Sister's "Meet the Frownies," which was sampled on bonus cut "The Recipe." You can also check out Beach House's "Silver Soul" played front to back, rather than the backwards-masked sample you get on Lamar's "Money Trees."
