Kelley Deal Unveils New Breeders Offshoot R. Ring

Alt-pop favourites the Breeders have been pretty quiet since self-releasing their Fate to Fatal EP back in 2009, but guitarist/vocalist Kelley Deal hasn't been lurking in the shadows while sister Kim Deal spends time with her other iconic act, the Pixies. Kelley has been bumping out new numbers in the two-piece R. Ring.

Kelley and her musical partner, Amplines' Mike Montgomery, describe the band as a "stark departure from the music they make in their other bands; it is sparse, chaotic, abrasive and lulling, often within the same song."

They recently delivered a homemade CD featuring two songs ("Scary" and "Steam") to sell on tour dates, but will offer up some more tunes in the coming months.

First up is a cover of Devo's "Mr. DNA" performed with Kristian Svitak. The song will be available digitally through Phratry Records starting August 29, and will also be available packaged with "limited, hand-cut, griptape-covered blocks of wood" that can be purchased at Dayton, OH's Southpark Tavern.

Meanwhile, the band will release a two-song 7-inch via Misra Records on October 30. The wax platter will feature the A-side "Fallout & Fire," which you can hear in the stream below, and host "See" on the flip.

Thanks to Consequence of Sound for the tip.
