Keith Richards' Influences Examined with Netflix Documentary

Keith Richards is about to release his first solo album in more than 20 years, and now the iconic Rolling Stones guitarist is set to have his career examined with a Netflix documentary.

The film is called Keith Richards: Under the Influence, and it's set to premiere on September 18, the same day that Keef releases Crosseyed Heart. It closely examines the six-stringer's influences, and explores his interest in the musical legacies of Chicago, Nashville and New York. Tom Waits makes an appearance.

Under the Influence is directed by Morgan Neville, a documentary filmmaker who has previously delved into music with 2013's Grammy-winning 20 Feet from Stardom (about backup singers), 2011's Pearl Jam Twenty, and various music-minded flicks examining Stax Records, James Brown, Iggy Pop, Jack Clement, Muddy Waters and Sam Phillips.

"If there's a Mount Rushmore of Rock 'n' Roll, Keith's face is surely on it. He has always represented the soul of rock music — for all of the light and dark shades that implies," Neville said in a statement. "To my relief, Keith Richards turned out to be a real man — full of humour, knowledge and wisdom. That's the real Keith we've worked to capture in our film and I'm honoured to bring it to a global audience via Netflix."

Under the Influence was produced by RadicalMedia (who are also behind the recent Netflix music doc What Happened, Miss Simone?) and Tremolo Productions.
