Kanye West Clarifies Beck Comments: "That Was a Mis-Wording"

At this past weekend's Grammys, Kanye West caused a big stir by jumping onstage when Beck won Album of the Year and then later claimed that the Morning Phase songwriter should have given the prize to Beyoncé. Now, Yeezy has backed off somewhat, admitting that some of his comments were a "mis-wording."

Speaking with Ryan Seacrest in a radio interview for On Air, West had some kind words to say about Beck. He explained, "Beck is one of the nicest guys and one of the most respected musicians in the game, so it's nothing that I would want to do as a fellow musician to disrespect him in any way."

West later addressed his controversial prior comment that "Beck needs to respect artistry" by giving his award to Beyoncé, admitting, "When I said that thing about respecting artistry, I think it came off the wrong way and that was a mis-wording on my part, because obviously Beck is one of the most respected artists, and respects artistry."

He added, "We'll still go play basketball and stuff."

That being said, West continued to assert that Beyoncé should have won, even comparing her loss to the Seattle Seahawks' decision not to give running back Marshawn Lynch the ball in the final moments of this year's Super Bowl.

"This is our Super Bowl," Yeezy said in regards to the Grammys, "and someone's got to be mad that Marshawn didn't get the ball."

West added that, when he initially got up onstage, it was a joke intended to allude to the time he snatched the mic from Taylor Swift at the 2009 VMAs. "It was kind of a joke," he said, "like the Grammys themselves."

West told Seacrest then, when he was interviewed after the ceremony, he spoke his mind. "When given a platform, it's very hard, as we know — and I'm going to talk in third-person like I'm a crazy person — but, it's very hard for Kanye West not to be very true and vocal to what he feels."

Ironically, Kanye claimed that Taylor Swift supported his decision to go onstage at the Grammys. He added, that the two are planning to collaborate soon. "She wants to get in the studio, and we're definitely going to go in," he said.

Since Kanye's initial comments, Beck has kept things classy by agreeing that Beyoncé should have won. Shirley Manson from Garbage, meanwhile, laid into West and called him a "twat."
