K-os has been dropping hints about BLack on BLonde for a while now, and the collection was previously one of our most anticipated records of 2012. Now, we've finally got the details of its upcoming release. A double album, it will be out on November 27 through Crown Loyalist/EMI.
UPDATE: The album is now due out January 29.
Each of the two discs has its own sound and style. A press release describes BLack on BLonde as containing "one album of rock tunes, on which K-os sings and plays drums, guitar and bass, and one album of old-school hip-hop jams." The title is a reference to both Mos Def and Bob Dylan.
The album was recorded in actor Hayden Christensen's deserted Los Angeles mansion. During his time in L.A., K-os reportedly "fell in love and from his ecstasy and heartache come the most personal and revealing lyrics of his career."
The double album includes guest appearances from Emily Haines of Metric, Sam Roberts, Sebastien Grainger of Death from Above 1979, Black Thought from the Roots, Travie McCoy from Gym Class Heroes and '80s star Corey Hart.
The album includes the previously released track "The Dog Is Mine," plus the upcoming single "NYCE 2 KNOW YA," which will be released on October 9.
The rapper said in a statement, "Like Bob Dylan I felt trapped by my birth into the music industry as a hippy or folk hip hop singer, I'm kind of over that feeling, you know? It's time to go electric and a song like 'NYCE 2 KNOW YA' is a celebration of that."
