July Talk Detail Self-Titled Debut, Announce Canadian Tour

BY Alex HudsonPublished Sep 26, 2012

Last week, bluesy Toronto band July Talk premiered their video "Paper Girl" and promised that their debut album was on the way. Sure enough, the band have confirmed the details of their self-titled LP, which comes out October 16 through White Girl Records.

The disc was recorded at Dream House Studios in Toronto with producer Alexandre Bonenfant (Crystal Castles, METZ) and then mixed by Jon Drew (Fucked Up, Arkells, Tokyo Police Club).

Sonic touchstones for the rootsy ten-song collection reportedly include Johnny Cash and June Carter, Tom Waits, and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes. A press release promises "softly strummed chords" that build to "a flurry of frantic shouting, overdriven guitars, and pulsating rhythms."

As you'll hear when you check out the "Paper Girl" video at the bottom of this page, these loud-quiet-loud dynamics are complemented by the contrasting styles of dual vocalists Peter Dreimanis and Leah Fay.

Scroll past the tracklist to check out the band's upcoming tour schedule, which finds them traveling to Canada's West Coast and playing a total of 10 shows in support of the new disc.
