"Brandon" on Exclaim! TV

BY Calum SlingerlandPublished Dec 16, 2014

Formed in Vancouver in 2010, JPNSGRLS (pronounced as "Japanese Girls") were created to make loud and fast music. Four years since their start, their goal has been manifested in the form of a studio debut containing 12 songs tracked over seven days – a fitting process to match their rock and roll energy.

Meeting up with the group at Kops Records in Toronto, we were treated to a performance of "Brandon," taken from the aforementioned studio debut, Circulation.

A steady backbeat from drummer Graham Serl and strong opening guitar strum signal the arrival of vocalist Charlie Kerr. Hidden behind his long hair, Kerr delivers a power-packed vocal performance, only strengthened in the winding chorus sections with backing vocals from bassist Chris McClelland. A more reserved bridge section results in an explosive finish, with Kerr falling to the floor while his bandmates lay down some rocking riffs to close out the track.
