Joy Williams

"Woman (Oh Mama)"

American duo the Civil Wars had a not-so-amicable breakup last year, but band member Joy Williams has now gone solo and has unveiled the single "Woman (Oh Mama)" from her forthcoming album Venus.

This tribute to womanhood sports a very different sound from the Civil Wars' acoustic folk, as it boasts a jittery, thwacking electronic surge and lush choral vocals. There's a slight tinge of soulful rootsiness to the arrangement, but the production makes it sound very futuristic.

The single is out now on iTunes. There are no further details from Venus currently available.

Although Venus will be Williams' first album since the Civil Wars parted ways, it's by no means her first work under her own name, since she has a solo discography stretching back well over a decade.
