John Lennon Mocks Disabled People in Newly Surfaced Video

Though beloved for his work with the Beatles and his own solo career, John Lennon was not the greatest dude outside of his music. Over the years, claims of both emotional and physical abuse have emerged. And now further tarnishing his reputation, footage has surfaced of Lennon making fun of disabled people onstage.

The British television show It Was Alright in the '60s recently aired a clip of Lennon appearing to make fun of disabled people while onstage with the Beatles. He speaks with his tongue pressed against the inside of his bottom lip and awkwardly claps as though he's got physical and mental disabilities.

Lorainne Bellamy, spokeswoman for the disability charity Mencap, told the Independent, "Times may have changed but I always find it hard to believe how such famous people can have these horrible views about real people," adding that the video was "shocking and painful to watch."

The offending footage is available below, though you should be warned that it's incredibly distasteful.
