Jimmy Eat World's Jim Adkins Goes Solo for Singles Series

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jul 8, 2015

Seeking a bit of Clarity, it would seem, Jimmy Eat World frontman Jim Adkins has announced he's taking a bit of a break from the long-running emo rock group to focus on a solo career. He will kick off a new singles series by the end of the week.

Adkins will deliver six online singles every Friday between July 10 and August 14. The recently recorded tracks are a mix of original material and covers songs, with Adkins putting a signature twist on tracks by the Everly Brothers ("Give Me a Sweetheart"), Beck ("Don't Act Like Your Heart Isn't Hard") and Cyndi Lauper ("Girls Just Want to Have Fun"). After appearing online, these songs will be collected on a trio of 7-inches that hit stores and turntables on September 11.

A blog post on the Jimmy Eat World site earlier this year explained that Adkins had hit Hollywood's Conway Studios with producer Ryan Perez-Daple to put work into a forthcoming solo album. It's unclear at present if the aforementioned originals will appear on the as-yet-undetailed album.

While Adkins has played solo shows in the past, these are his first official releases outside of Jimmy Eat World.

"2015 seemed like as good a time as any to take a second and experiment with life outside the pattern," he said of his decision to go it alone. "In the past I have been involved with solo work, playing mostly benefit concerts locally in my home of Arizona. Toward the end of our last European tour I decided to stick around and play a solo show in Berlin, DE. I thought to myself: hey, this is different and also pretty fun... I could keep going. So why not?"

Fittingly, Adkins has unveiled solo tour plans this summer, with U.S. and European dates booked between July and September. There are no Canadian gigs on the docket. You'll find his full schedule, which also includes a few Jimmy Eat World dates, down below.
