Late last month, Justin K. Broadrick's Jesu project announced a new LP titled Every Day I Get Closer to the Light from Which I Came was on the way, though few details were revealed at the time beyond a September 24 due date. Now, the post-metal crew are giving us a better glimpse at what's to come by unveiling tracklisting details, the album art and an audio snippet from the set.
A press release explains that the record, which follows 2011's Ascension, contains five new tracks that apparently flirt with the shoegazing hooks of past material, while venturing into the realms of post-punk, dub and electronica. The LP's 17-minute centrepiece "The Great Leveller" is the only track to feature anyone other than Broadrick, with Nicola Manzan acting as "a one man orchestra of strings." Lyrically, the song is said to deal with "the existential drain that is early parenthood," a theme apparently near and dear to Broadrick after becoming first-time parent shortly before starting work on the LP.
