Jennifer Castle's silky twang is probably better suited to smaller venues for now, but she managed to catch quite a few ears at the half-capacity Great Hall. Her diminutive form might have made it hard to command stage presence, were it not for her extensive vocal range and pleasing alto timbre. Overall, it was a winning set, held aloft by the strong melodies on songs like "Neverride" and "Powers," and carried through with tight, effortless playing on the part of both Castle and her backing band. Flashing strobe lights during the set were a little misplaced, but luckily, Castle's tunes don't require that kind of glitz, anyway.
